Silkworms are the larvae (caterpillar) of the silk moth. They are well-known for producing silk cocoons which are used to make fabrics.
Silkworms make great feeders for medium to large sized pets, including: adult lizards, frogs, tarantulas, scorpions, etc.! They cannot cause harm to your pets unlike crickets or other insects, which may disturb or even nibble at your pet while resting.
Compared to many other types of caterpillars, silk worms grow relatively slowly. When kept at room temperature, they will grow between 0.25" to 0.5" per week.
This adds to their value as feeder insects since they will not outgrow your pet too quickly! If you'd like them to grow even slower, they can be refrigerated (NOT FROZEN) for up to a week at a time.
The 8oz container that you will receive contains: silkworm media** (their food source), substrate (mesh squares), and silkworms!
IMPORTANT:
**There will not be enough medium (food) supplied in this container to last them to their pupal stage! If you wish to keep them until adulthood (moths), you must have extra silkworm media!
Any questions will be promptly and thoroughly answered!
